A concussion is a high-impact traumatic brain injury that causes the brain to rapidly hit the inside of the skull. When you’re suffering from a concussion, it’s important to get help from a medical doctor as soon as possible.

After seeing a doctor for the initial injury, you may still experience symptoms and residual effects from your injury. Chiropractors provide safe, all-natural, non-invasive care for people suffering from sports injuries and other traumas – and that includes injuries from a concussion.

Symptoms of a Concussion

Every injury is different, so if you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms after a sports injury or a hit to the head, see a medical doctor as soon as possible.

• Headache
• Blurry vision
• Head pressure
• Dizziness
• Confusion
• Nausea and/or vomiting
• Memory loss
• Slurred speech
• Uncontrollable fatigue
• Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
• Inability to focus
• Sleep issues
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Sensitivity to light and noise
• Irritability

What Your Chiropractor Can Do

Your chiropractor will start with an evaluation of your condition to create a treatment plan that’s right for you. Following the initial evaluation, your chiropractor may recommend the following chiropractic services:
• Spinal adjustment. This technique is used to realign the vertebrae to improve your body’s functionality and relieve your pain.
• Stretches and exercise. Following an injury, doing stretches and exercises can help eliminate aches and pains, restore flexibility and mobility.

Sports Injury Treatment

Often, concussions occur because of sports injuries. If you recently suffered a concussion because of your involvement in high contact sports, your body is probably taking a beating every time you play. See your chiropractor for an evaluation.
