Advanced 3D Imaging
Precision Care for Your FamilyAt our practice, we believe that “to see is to know, and not to see is to guess.” That is why we utilize Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) technology. Whether you are seeking answers for chronic pain or bringing your child in for their first structural analysis, this technology allows us to provide the most personalized care possible.
Why Precision Matters
While traditional X-rays give us a flat, 2D view, our CBCT provides a highly detailed 3D reconstruction.
- Accuracy: It shows us exactly where the upper cervical spine and nerves are located, which means a safer, gentler, and faster adjustment.
- Beyond Symptoms: We can see bone structure and soft tissue health in three dimensions, preventing guesswork and leading to more predictable outcomes.
- Hospital Comparison: This is not a “hospital” CT. It is specifically designed for the head and neck, using a fraction of the radiation used in medical CT scans.
Safety & The ALARA Principle
We strictly adhere to the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle.
- Pulsed Technology: Our machine doesn’t stay “on” the whole time it spins; it takes quick snapshots to minimize exposure.
- Targeted Scanning: We “size down” the beam to only scan the specific area of interest.
- Protective Shielding: We use lead-lined aprons and thyroid collars when indicated to ensure the scan only goes where it is needed.
Putting “Dose” into Perspective
Getting a 3D scan is roughly equivalent to the natural background radiation you would receive just by living on Earth for about 5 to 7 days or taking a cross country flight.
Just for Kids: Your 3D Superhero Map
This section is designed to be read with a child who might be feeling a little nervous about their scan.
What is this machine?
Have you ever seen a photograph of a house? It looks flat, right? But when you walk inside the house, you can see all the rooms and where the stairs go. This machine is like a camera that lets us walk inside your smile! It creates a 3D movie of your head and neck bones so we can see how strong they are.
What will happen?
- The Superhero Vest: First, you get to wear a special heavy apron. It’s like a superhero vest that protects the rest of your body while the camera works.
- The Space Robot: You’ll sit or stand very still while the machine’s arm makes one quiet circle around you. It takes about 10 to 20 seconds—that’s faster than singing “Happy Birthday”!
- The Snapshots: The machine uses “pulsed” light, which means it just takes quick, tiny snapshots instead of being on the whole time.
Does it hurt?
Not at all! There are no pokes, no dyes, and you don’t have to go into a tunnel. It’s completely open-air. It’s just like getting your picture taken, but way cooler because we get to see the “hidden” parts of your spine and skull!
